The BBC recently unveiled an “updated” Postman Pat.  Some cried ‘Heresy!’, but having seen it I must admit to rather enjoying it.  Especially now his van talks back to him and he carries a gun.  See what you think:

  1. hehe, that’s pretty cool. I used to watch this stuff a lot when I was a kid! In hindsight, some of the English-Dutch translations were pretty shitty though…

  2. Lol, no I meant the translation of Postman Pat, called Pieter Post. I think the cat was called Appelmoes, which means as much as ‘apple sauce’…

called Appelmoes, which means as much as ‘apple sauce’…

    or mashed apples ?

we say eplemos in my country- meaning mashed apples..

  4. Which country is it? In Holland appelmoes is a favourite with fries… It’s made out of mashed apples, but with a lot of sugar added…

  5. Norway ! Fries.. as in potatoes.. well for me it sounds strange.. but well thats Norway S. We do use eplemos as a dessert called; “brown Betty with whipped cream in English”

  6. Yeah, in a lot of countries it’s known as a dessert but maybe we Dutch are a bit weird 😉

What was the English name of Postman Pat’s cat?

  7. That cat’s called Jess, though Brown Betty would’ve been better imho. (If the cat was brown, that is.)

  8. If the cat is indeed called Jess, I think they really nailed the localization by translating it to ‘Appelmoes’ would’nt you agree?
